This article aims at analysing the actual legal status of physician assisted suicide in Belgium. Section 1 shows that suicide, complicity in suicide and assisted suicide are not a crime. Section 2 discusses whether not providing help to a person in grave danger can be qualified as assisted suicide. Section 3 makes clear that the Belgian Act on euthanasia does not encompass physician assisted suicide and explains why this is so. This has made the legal status of assisted suicide ambiguous, as appears from section 4.
